We sat down with Wildlife Health Specialist, Dr. Kerry Mower, from the NMDGF to get some answers about some wildlife diseases. Dr. Mower is a wealth of information when it comes to wildlife diseases and thoroughly entertaining to talk with. We discuss the big disease topic these days….CWD, including the positive cases that have surfaced in New Mexico, the “zombie deer” media craze, and new research in that area. USDA APHIS Veterinary Services – Provides good reliable information directed toward game parks and farmed Cervids (deer).
USGS Wildlife Health Center – Good wildlife-oriented material directed toward wildlife managers. Contains the best and most current maps for CWD distribution.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – Has information about prion disease and risk to humans. CDC is always very cautious when it comes to human health.
