Tracking is an important part of hunting, whether it be a part of how you hunt (spot and stalk, still hunting) or after you have made a shot on an animal and need to find it so you can put it in the freezer. It takes a lot of time and effort to get really good at it, but when you do, you will really have an advantage out in the field.
